Mira Bryssinck - Someone's Sister

Thu, 12 Nov 2026 · 20:00
KAAP | De Werf, Bruges
€16–19
Mira Bryssinck explores the impact of a disability on family life. She has dimples in her cheeks, and in the summer more freckles than I do. She has a penetrating gaze, with eyes that look behind the gazes of others. You can see that even in a photo. The camera looks at her and she looks back. Not carefree. Neither am I. But we smile at the camera because that's how it went in the 90s. She holds me upright in the sand. And I her sometimes too. Based on interviews with people with a disability and their brothers and sisters, intimate conversations with family members, clippings from old scrapbooks, and other documentation material, she investigates the gray zones between receiving care and providing care. How do you grow up with a disability next to someone without a disability? And how does this shape a family? How does society look at this? On stage, we get a (fictional) story about two sisters, a meandering and cinematic coming-of-age story, supplemented with beautiful drawings and a bit of music.
