The film opens in the gentleness of a Jaffa house surrounded by orange trees, before the violence of History, exile, and forced displacement break this balance. After a Palestinian teenager is drawn into a demonstration in the West Bank, his mother retraces the thread of the family past. From 1948 to 2022, she recounts the hopes, losses, choices, wounds, and resistances that led to this moment. Through this transmitted memory, it is not only political events that appear, but their intimate traces in bodies, families, and generations. Director and actress of Jordanian-Palestinian origin, Cherien Dabis seeks to give a human face to a history too often reduced to numbers, positions, or abstractions. Her film makes heard a Palestinian narrative rarely placed at the center, by showing daily life, attachment to the land, family ties, dignity, and the pain of a people confronted with exile and erasure. Presented at the Festival de Sundance 2025 and in numerous international festivals, All That’s Left of You is at once a historical chronicle, an intimate drama, and a gesture of memory. Without pathos, but with great emotional power, the film reminds us that behind every conflict lie lives, legacies, impossible choices, and dreams of justice.
