Lunch-conference "At the table of the Enlightenment"
Wed, 14 Apr 2027 · 19:00
Wine Bar des Marolles, Brussels
In the 18th century, the table at Versailles changed its tone. We discover a new way of eating where pleasure, conversation, and sociability take precedence over strict court etiquette. More intimate suppers, exchanges of ideas, and the search for taste and refinement accompanied the rise of the Enlightenment and evolved food practices. Because at Versailles, in the Age of Enlightenment, eating also became an art of living, based on dialogue, seduction, and shared pleasure.
This story will be told to you by food historian Pierre Leclercq and the historical meal will be prepared by chef Alex Van Kalck.
