In the eighties, six young Belgian designers head to London Fashion Week. Together they immediately write history. Walter Van Beirendonck, Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Bikkembergs, Dirk Van Saene and Marina Yee become known as ‘De Zes van Antwerpen’. Through their innovative vision, they instantly put Belgium on the international fashion map. But were they actually a collective? Or did that story only emerge afterwards? In The Six German director Reiner Holzemer goes in search of the people behind the myth. Although each developed a distinct own identity and artistic vision, together they conquered the fashion world as ‘De Zes’. Their breakthrough in London also marked a turning point: some built international fashion houses, others consciously kept their distance from commercial success.
