Cyprus, 1882. In a village under British occupation, the immigrant painter Eleni is struck by an unspeakable tragedy: she loses all three of her children in a rather bizarre accident, something the islanders find strange, to say the least. She mourns her loss in isolation. It is during this grieving process that she meets Michalakis, an artistically gifted boy terrorized by his father, who has made abusing him his hobby. He may be the key to a turning point in her grief. With his help, Eleni tries to bring her deceased children back to life, but her ritual goes terribly wrong and summons malevolent beings that threaten not only to take Michalakis away but also pose a danger to the islanders..
