THEATER WITH STORIES, IMAGE & MOVEMENT 14+ La Puta Tierra begins as a blank page. Eleven young people from diverse backgrounds will color it in, each with their own language, story, body, memory, identity, and history. While outside the walls of the theater, misunderstanding, miscommunication, violence, and prejudice rage, inside they create a brave space in which differences and contradictions can be highlighted. In word, image, sound, and movement, the young people express the complexity of their identity. It is a story of navigating and balancing between where you are and who you are. About ground, land, space, territoriality, exclusion mechanisms, and appropriation, but also about softness, care, and coming home. A story with a snowed-under happy end: that what we do share with each other is not tied to a place or culture. Humanity. La Puta Tierra, Spanish for ‘the cursed earth’, wants to color in the growing fear surrounding migration and ‘the other’, by giving voices to a generation in a split, which is rooted in both the home culture of its parents and that of the country in which it was born. It is anger and softness mixed together, out of love for and concern for the mother, the earth, and how we treat her and each other.
