In Holden Caulfield catching, Adriaan Van Aken dives under the surface of The Catcher in the Rye and exposes the vulnerability behind Holden's sharp facade. He travels to New York to relive Holden's wanderings, and weaves them with memories of his own teenage years.
On stage, he is accompanied by two musicians and his son Staf, a “Holden within reach”. Together they build an intimate, layered performance with drawings, text projections, audio fragments, and small objects that make memories tangible. Fiction and autobiography woven into a personal and relatable story about growing up, loss, and the search for a foothold.
Over Het nieuwstedelijk
Het nieuwstedelijk makes idiosyncratic theater at the intersection of text, music, and image. Based on literature and personal stories, the company creates performances that are both accessible and layered, and that place the connection with the city and its residents at the center.
