Everyone knows D’Andriezenstraat In Begijnendijk. For generations, ten brothers and sisters have lived next door to each other. Their houses and backyards flow into one another, just like their lives. Even now that they are between seventy and ninety years old, they continue to take unconditional care of each other. But slowly, the street is changing. Following the death of brother Ivo, the first house stands empty, and it becomes clear that the close-knit family bond is slowly falling apart.
D’Andriezenstraat is about a special family identity. About growing older together, loss, connectedness, and the question of what remains when a generations-long tradition slowly fades away. Regisseur Philippe Niclaes is known as the director and cameraman of the television series Dwars door de Lage Landen and as a documentary maker. For the second time, Docfest is selecting a film of his as the opening film. In 2022, the first edition of our festival, we opened with Zolang we nog kunnen. Now, too, Philippe brings a warm, nostalgic, and human portrait that lingers for a long time.
